  • Computer-managed instruction (CMI)

A record keeping procedure for tracking student performance by using a computer.

  • Computerized learning

An electronic method of individualizing learning. This is accomplished by having learners select their own objectives and by identifying their own characteristics, which are then entered into a computer and, in turn, provided suggested learning experiences that can be pursued by the learners to assist them in achieving their objectives. In the early to middle…

  • Computerized axial tomography

An X-ray procedure designed to visualize structures within the body that would not normally be seen through conventional X-ray procedures. A radiological procedure that uses .x-rays to create images of successive slices of the body and its organs. The three elongated, bony projections known as the superior, middle, and inferior turbinates or nasal conchae; singular…

  • Computer-based resource units (CBRU)

    Computerized learning.

  • Computer-assisted tomography (Cat Scan)

Brain imaging techniques that pairs sophisticated X-ray techniques with computer technology to obtain three dimensional images of the structure of the brain.

  • Computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI)

Random digit dialing used to select a sample randomly from among telephone subscribers for interviews. The computer is programmed to determine whether the respondent fits the quota sample, what questions to ask, and in what order. Responses immediately entered directly into the computer are checked for consistency and errors.

  • Computer-assisted instruction (CAI)

The use of computers to present learning programs to facilitate and/or evaluate learning. Computer-based instructional programs for individual learners. The term most often refers to drill and practice, tutorial, or simulation exercises used as stand-alone instruction or as supplementary materials. A more recent term is e-learning.

  • Computer

    Computer

An electronic device capable of accepting data, interpreting it, performing ordered operations, and reporting on the outcomes of these operations. A machine, typically electronic, that is capable of performing computations on data that is fed into it. The computations performed are governed by instructions given to the computer. The physical machinery itself is generally referred…
