  • Personality trait theory of alcoholism

    The alcoholic possesses certain traits that are indicative of alcoholism, e.g., feelings of inferiority, low frustration tolerance level, dependency, emotional immaturity, and fearfulness.  

  • Personality trait disturbance

    Characterized by immaturity or maladjustment that results in a person being unable to maintain emotional equilibrium and independence under stress. There are three forms: a) emotionally unstable personality, b) passive aggressive personality; and c) compulsive personality.  

  • Personality pattern disturbances

    Any of several personality types that can rarely be altered by therapy and tend to decompensate to psychosis under stress: inadequate personality, schizoid personality, cyclothymic personality, and paranoid personality.

    Paper and pencil tests of personality that present questions about feelings or customary behavior.

    A test developed by Raymond B. Cattell in an attempt to identify and categorize various traits that influence the development of personality. Cattell’s test included 16 trait factors.
