  • Relative refractory phase

    A refractory phase in which stronger than normal stimulation produces a nerve impulse, absolutely refractory phase.

    In epidemiology, the percentage of cases that were exposed to the presumed condition divided by the percentage of controls that were similarly exposed.

    A person’s perception of his or her status in comparison with his or her expectations.

    Sexual activity in the context of emotional involvement and intensity, recreational sex.  

  • Rejected social status

    In studies of social status in children’s groups, those children who are high on social impact but low on social preference.  

  • Reintegration

    A condition in which an element of an experience seems to reestablish the whole. In psychology, the resumption of normal behavior and mental functioning following disintegration of personality in mental illness.  

  • Reinstatement

    A procedure for recovering a memory without having to relearn what is remembered.  

  • Reinforcing stimulus

    A stimulus that produces reinforcement.  

  • Reinforcing factor

    Any reward or punishment following a particular behavior, reinforcement.
