    A food’s ability to satisfy feelings of hunger.  

  • Satiety center

    The ventromedial region of the hypothalamus. An area in the ventromedial hypothalamus that modulates the stimulus to eat by sending inhibitory impulses, following a meal, to the feeding center, also located in the hypothalamus. Blood levels of nutrients and gastrointestinal hormones influence its activity.

    The protoplasm of muscles cells. Semiliquid cytoplasm in muscle membrane. Intercellular material of the cell, particularly striated muscle cells. The cytoplasm of muscle cells, especially striated muscle cells.  

  • Sarcolemma

    The cell membrane of muscle fiber. The cell membrane of a muscle cell. Invaginations called transverse tubules (T-tubules) penetrate the cytoplasm adjacent to the myofibrils and carry the action potential to the interior of the muscle cell. The thin covering that encases each striped muscle fiber.
