  • Sex-limited trait

    A trait that expresses itself only in one gender even though either gender may carry genes for the trait.  

  • Sexism

    Prejudice and discrimination based upon one’s gender. All of the actions and attitudes that relegate individuals of either sex to a secondary and inferior status in society.  

  • Sex-influenced traits

    Those genetic traits in which the dominant expression depends on the sex of the individual, sex-linked trait.  

  • Sex hormone

    A substance secreted by the sex glands directly into the bloodstream. An oestrogen or androgen which promotes the growth of secondary sexual characteristics. Steroid hormone responsible for sexual development and reproductive function.   • Sex guilt

    A sense of guilt resulting from the violation of personal standards or of proper sexual behavior.  

  • Sex gland

    A gonad.  

  • Sex flush

    A rash that develops in some women during sexual arousal as a result of vasocongestion of blood vessels near the surface of the skin. It begins at the abdomen, spreading to the throat, neck, and finally to the breasts.  

  • Sex education

    The formal and informal learning about the biological, sociological, psychological, spiritual, and interpersonal aspects of human sexuality. Teaching children about their own sexuality, its joys and hazards and its place in human life.
