  • Stabilized image

    An image on the retina presented in a way to eliminate the small movements usually produced by physiological nystagmus stabilized image technique.  

  • Stability-lability

    A means of classifying responsiveness of the autonomic nervous system. Labile individuals are those who respond to a wide range of stimuli resulting in autonomic arousal. Stable individuals are not as easily aroused.  

  • Stabilimeter

    A device for measuring the activities of an infant.  

  • Stable emotions

    Controlled and appropriate emotional responses that do not cause disproportionate discomfort or unwise behavior.  

  • S-shaped function

    A function that begins with positive acceleration and then shifts to negative acceleration.  

  • S-R theory

    The hypothesis that learning consists of the formation of connections between stimuli and responses.

    Psychologists who emphasize the role of stimulus/response connections in learning.

    A law that states the dependence of behavior upon antecedent conditions, R-R law.  

  • Squelch

    A system for removing objectionable back ground noise from a public address system or radio speaker.  

  • Squeeze technique

    A method used in the treatment of premature ejaculation. The procedure involves squeezing the penis below the coronal ridge just before ejaculation takes place so that the male will lose his urge to ejaculate, basilar squeeze technique; stop-start technique.
