Mindblown: a blog about philosophy.

  • K line

One of the distinguishing spectral lines exhibited by an atom is engendered through the stimulation of electrons residing within the K shell.

  • Kirchhoff’s Law

At any given juncture within an electrical circuit, the aggregate algebraic value of the intersecting currents amounts to zero.

  • Kilovoltmeter

A voltmeter designed with a scale calibrated to precisely display voltage measurements in kilovolts (thousands of volts).

  • Kilovoltage

An electrical potential on the scale of thousands of volts, commonly observed in applications such as the voltage applied to an x-ray tube. This magnitude of voltage contributes to the formidable penetrating power exhibited by the x-ray beam.

  • Kilo-electron-volt

A measure of energy equivalent to one thousand electron-volts. This value signifies the energy acquired by an electron as it undergoes acceleration through a voltage differential of 1000 volts.

  • K electron

An electron occupying an orbital within the K shell, which represents the primary electron shell encircling the nucleus of an atom.

  • Jumper

A concise segment of conductor employed to establish a linkage between two designated locations within an electrical circuit.

  • Electrical joint

A point of connection where two wires or conductive pathways intersect to facilitate the flow of electric current. Permanently established joints are soldered, while temporary joints are secured using spring clips or screws.

  • Isocentric mounting

A configuration enabling convenient mobility of a radiation source within a treatment area, while simultaneously preserving a consistent separation and angle of the beam.

  • Irradiated

Describing areas that have been exposed to any form of radiation.
