Mindblown: a blog about philosophy.

  • Single-phase generator

An electrical generator that generates a current commonly referred to as a sine wave. The armature of this generator rotates within a robust electromagnetic field at a frequency of 60 rotations per second, resulting in the production of a 60-cycle current.

  • Ultrasound single pass scanning

A fundamental scanning technique that pertains to the manner in which the transducer is maneuvered over the patient’s body to generate a scan. The transducer is glided smoothly across the patient in a continuous motion, ensuring there are no abrupt movements or arcs created by the transducer.

  • Sine wave

A waveform that exhibits varying amplitude from moment to moment due to changes in the orientation of the magnetic field plane. This sinusoidal wave comprises frequencies and wavelengths. A single cycle corresponds to a complete rotation of the armature, which encompasses two impulses or alternations. The widely utilized form of alternating current is the 60-cycle…

  • Silver recovery

The process through which silver is recovered from exposed film and utilized from the fixing solution. This can be accomplished either during the development process or by extracting the silver from discarded film.

  • Silver iodide

A halide that can be incorporated into the film emulsion to augment its sensitivity.

  • Silver bromides

The emulsion used in X-ray film comprises a combination of silver bromides and gelatin. To prepare this emulsion, gelatin is dissolved in hot water under conditions of complete darkness, and then silver nitrate and potassium bromide are added to create silver bromide. When radiation interacts with the emulsion, the silver ions (Ag+) and bromide ions…

  • Silicon rectifier

An esteemed solid-state rectifier, comprised of semiconductor materials, finds widespread application in the rectification of electrical currents emanating from both three-phase and single-phase generator X-ray systems.

  • Shutters

Regarding the manipulation of mobile lead encasements on a membrane, consider the illustrative instance of the shutters on the fluoroscopic screen.

  • Shoulder support

A mechanical apparatus affixed to the X-ray unit to provide support for the patient’s shoulders and body when the X-ray table is positioned in a Trendelenburg position.

  • Short circuit

A low-resistance pathway established either across a voltage source or between the two sides of a circuit or line. It typically occurs inadvertently and leads to an excessive flow of current, which can potentially cause damage. This phenomenon is commonly referred to as a “short” or a short circuit. A surgical procedure that redirects the…
