  • Brandt-Andrews maneuver

    A technique for expressing the placenta from the uterus during the third stage of labor. One hand puts gentle traction on the cord while the other presses the anterior surface of the uterus backward.  

  • Branchioma

    A tumor derived from the branchial epithelium.  

  • Brainstem auditory evoked potential

    Brainwaves that are produced in response to sounds, i.e., stimulation of the cochlear nerve. Tests of auditory evoked potential are used to determine the threshold of sound required to produce a brainstem response, e.g., in people with hearing loss or brain death.  

  • Brain’s reflex

    Extension of the flexed arm when the quadrupedal posture is assumed.  

  • Noncontracted braille

    A type of braille in which only the regular alphabet and punctuation marks are used.  

  • Contracted braille

    A version of braille in which abbreviations, contractions and other short forms of words are used in addition to the use of the standard alphabet and standard punctuation marks.  

  • Braydiastole

    Prolongation of the diastolic pause.  

  • Relative bradycardia

    A heart rate that is too slow for a person’s immediate physiological needs, although it may be more than 60 beats per minute. Heart rates are said to be relatively slow when they do not allow adequate circulation of blood to the brain, coronary arteries, or other vital organs.  

  • Fetal bradycardia

    Persistent fetal heart rate slower than 110 beats per minute.  

  • Bradyarrhythmia

    A heart rate of less than 60 beats per minute found in an adult.
