Cuneiform cartilage
One of two small pieces of elastic cartilage that lie in the aryepiglottic fold of the larynx immediately anterior to the arytenoid cartilage.

Cartilage forming the broad lateral wall of each nostril.

Carry-over
The portion of analyte brought from one reaction segment to the next. The accuracy of laboratory test results may be altered by contaminants that are transferred from one reaction to the following one.

Not attached to a carrier; said of radioactive isotopes.

Intermittent carrier
One who harbors an infectious organism (e.g., methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in the nasal passages) from time to time, but not continuously.

Incubatory carrier
One who harbors and spreads an infectious organism during the incubation period of a disease before it becomes clinically evident.

Genetic carrier
One whose chromosomes contain a pathological gene that may be transmitted to offspring. In some cases (e.g., Tay-Sachs disease) this condition can be detected prenatally by a laboratory test done on amniotic fluid.

Active carrier
One who harbors a pathogenic organism for a clinically significant time and is able to pass the infection to others.

The harboring, holding, or transporting of a chemical, gene, infection, or other material.

Involuntary picking at bedclothes, seen especially in febrile delirium.
