  • Castrated

    Rendered incapable of reproduction by removal of the testicles or ovaries.  

  • Serial casting

    The forming of an object in a mold. A sequence of casts is utilized with the intention of progressively repositioning a limb into a more functional alignment.  

  • Castellani’s paint

    Paint used to disinfect skin and to treat fungus infections of the skin. Its components are phenol, resorcinol, basic fuchsin, boric acid, and acetone.  

  • Cast-brace

    A lower extremity cast that is open and hinged at the knee joint. It can be used to treat femoral fractures.  

  • White blood cell cast

    A leukocyte cast found in urine in acute pyelonephritis, interstitial nephritis, and at times, glomerulonephritis.  

  • Waxy cast

    A light yellowish, well-defined urinary cast probably made up of disintegrating kidney cells, found in some chronic kidney diseases, glomerulonephritis, and uncontrolled hypertension.  

  • Walking cast

    A cast or boot that allows the patient to be ambulatory.  

  • Uterine cast

    A cast from the uterus passed in exfoliative endometritis or membranous dysmenorrhea.  

  • Urinary cast

    A cylindrical clump of cells and proteins found in the urine in a wide variety of diseases and conditions.  

  • Red blood cell cast

    A urinary cast composed principally of red blood cells strongly suggestive of glomerulonephritis.
