Mindblown: a blog about philosophy.

  • Cryoprotein

Any protein that precipitates when cooled below body temperature.

  • Cryoprotectant

A drug that permits cells to survive freezing and thawing,

  • Cryophilic

Showing preference for cold, as in psychrophilic bacteria.

  • Cryolesion

The cooling of an area in order to injure or destroy it.

  • Cryokinetics

The therapeutic use of cold (such as ice packs or ice immersion) before active exercise. The application of cold increases the amount of motion that is available to a joint by decreasing pain. Active exercise increases range of motion, improves tissue tensile strength, and enhances healing.

  • Cryohypophysectomy

Destruction of the hypophysis by the use of cold.

  • Cryoglobulinemia

The presence in the blood of an abnormal protein that forms gels at low temperatures. It is found in association with pathological conditions such as hepatitis C viral infection, multiple myeloma, leukemia, and certain forms of pneumonia. There is a medical condition where proteins present in the blood form particles when exposed to cold temperatures.…

  • Cryogen

A substance that produces low temperatures. In cryotherapy treatment, a substance characterized by an exceptionally low boiling point, such as liquid nitrogen, is utilized.

  • Cryofibrinogenemia

The coagulation of blood in small vessels, caused by cryofibrinogens in the plasma. This rare symptomatic illness can cause ulceration, gangrene, necrosis, or purpura, especially when the skin is exposed to cold. Cryofibrinogenemia usually develops secondarily, e.g., in patients with metastatic cancer, lymphoma, or collagenvascular disease.

  • Cryofibrinoge

An abnormal fibrinogen that precipitates when cooled and dissolves when reheated to body temperature.
