  • Extension cylinder

A hollow tube attached to the end of the collimator apparatus of an x-ray tube. It limits the size of the beam, decreasing scatter radiation and increasing detail.

  • Crossed cylinder

Two cylindrical lenses at right angles to each other; used in diagnosing astigmatism.

  • Cylinder

A hollow, tube-shaped body. Within the realm of geometric forms, there exists an intriguing device—a cylindrical object that occasionally assumes the role of a cone. This cylindrical shape, when equipped with the ability to elongate, is referred to as an extension cylinder. Such a versatile apparatus serves various purposes, offering flexibility and adaptability in its…

  • Cyclops

A fetal malformation in which there is only one eye.

  • Cyclochoroiditis

Inflammation of the ciliary body and choroid coat of the eye.

  • Cyclins

A group of intracellular proteins that regulate the cell cycle, i.e., cell growth and division. Some cyclins, including cyclins D and E, are overexpressed in human breast cancer cells.

  • Cyclectomy

Excision of part of the ciliary body or muscle.

  • Unstimulated cycle

A cycle in assisted reproduction in which a woman does not receive drugs to stimulate her ovaries for production of additional follicles.

  • Stretch-shortening cycle

An eccentric muscle contraction followed immediately by a concentric contraction. The elastic potentiation that occurs during the eccentric phase increases the force of output of the concentric contraction. Exercises incorporating this phenomenon are called plyometrics.
