  • Hydrogel

    A colloid containing hydrophilic polymers. Hydrogels are used in numerous applications, including glucose sensors, breast implants, soft contact lenses, and sterile dressings.

    Brain substance expanded into a watery sac protruding through a cleft in the cranium.

    Technique employing a pressurized fine stream of water (jet) to develop tissue planes or to divide certain soft tissues less traumatically than ordinary sharp dissection.   • Hydrodensitometry

    The weighing of an object immersed in water and subsequent measurement of the water displaced. The specific gravity of the body can be estimated from that information, and the percentage of the body fat can be estimated.  

  • Hydrocystoma

    A benign cystic lesion developing from apocrine glands, typically found on the eyelids or other facial structures.  

  • Irreversible hydrocolloid

    A hydrosol of alginic acid whose physical state is changed by an irreversible chemical reaction, forming insoluble calcium alginate. This substance is called alginate or dental alginate. Alginate is used in dentistry as a primary impression material.  

  • Hydrocodone bitartrate

    A very commonly prescribed opioid pain reliever.  

  • Hydrocirsocele

    A hydrocele combined with varicose veins of the spermatic cord.  

  • Hydrochloride

    An alkaloid or other base combined with hydrochloric acid.  

  • Secondary hydrocephalus

    Hydrocephalus following injury or infections such as meningitis or syphilis.
