A test to determine if an infant breathed prior to its death. The infant’s lungs are put in water; if they float, prior breathing is proven.

An underwater weighing technique for the determination of an individual’s specific gravity. The amount of water displaced by the body is corrected for the air contained in the lungs. This technique can be used to estimate the percentage of body fat.
