  • Proteasome

  • Proteases

A class of enzymes that break down, or hydrolyze, the peptide bonds that join the amino acids in a protein. The protein is broken down into its basic building blocks (i.e., amino acids).

  • Protean

Having the ability to change form, as the ameba; variable. A condition or eruption that exhibits a variety of forms or shapes. An insoluble compound derived from a protein, typically the initial product resulting from the influence of water or enzymes.

  • Protactinium

A radioactive element; atomic weight 231; atomic number 91.

  • Heat prostration

Exhaustion resulting from exposure to excessive heat.

  • Prosthokeratoplasty

Surgical replacement of diseased or scarred corneal tissue with a transparent prosthesis.

  • Prosthodontist

  • Prosthetosclerokeratoplasty

The surgical procedure for replacement of diseased scleral and corneal tissue with a transparent prosthesis.

  • Prosthetic control system

A mechanical system of cables and attachments that, used with a harness, permits the wearer of a prosthetic device to perform desired movements, such as grasping objects.
