  • Coagulated protein

    One of the derived (insoluble) proteins resulting from the action of alcohol, heat, or other physicochemical entities on protein solutions.

    A protein that elicits an immune response when coupled with a hapten.

  • Adapter protein

    An intracellular molecule that undergoes structural and functional changes in response to binding of cell membrane receptors by ligands. Adapter proteins participate in the immune response by acting as a bridge for enzymes in the signaling pathway needed to activate lymphocytes and initiate a response to an antigen.  

  • Protegrin

    Any of a class of cysteine-rich compounds, derived from mammalian peptides, that protect animals from a broad range of infections, including oral and periodontal diseases.  

  • Protective

    Covering, preventing infection, providing immunity.

    A model used to explain health seeking or avoidance behaviors which suggest that a person makes health-related choices based on the perception of risks and self-efficacy or his or her vulnerability to illness and capacity to take effective action to avoid harm.
