A network is an entity that provides, or provides for, integrated health services to a defined population of individuals. A network offers comprehensive or specialty services and has a centralized structure that coordinates and integrates services provided by components and practitioners participating in the network. The term broadly covers a wide variety of arrangements, including health maintenance organizations (HMOs), preferred provider organizations (PPOs), vertically integrated hospital delivery systems, home care networks, behavioral health networks, and physician-hospital organizations (PHOs), or any group of providers or insurers who contract to provide health services.
