A technique used to examine the heart’s pumping capacity during each heartbeat and assess the proper contraction of various sections of the heart wall. This involves introducing a radioactive isotope into the patient’s red blood cells, allowing the creation of images showing the blood distribution within the heart at different phases of the cardiac cycle. A Multiple-Gated Acquisition (MUGA) scan employs an electrocardiogram (ECG), a gamma camera, and a computer for this purpose.
