Micronuclei

Small particles consisting of acentric fragments of chromosomes or entire chromosomes, which lag behind at anaphase of cell division.

In cells with multiple nuclei, the smaller ones are known as micronuclei. In ciliate protozoa, this term refers to the smaller, diploid nucleus, which is trans-criptively inactive and significantly smaller than the macronucleus, playing a role in reproduction.
