Offensive mechanisms or actions by a person that are designed to keep other individuals in an inferior, dependent, or helpless role. Microinsults usually are verbal exchanges that involve stereotyping of individuals (e.g., assuming that a female physician is a nurse or that the African American attending physician is the resident and the European-American resident is the attending).
