Metastasis (metastasize)

Transfer of disease from one body part or organ to another not directly connected to it. Classically, the transfer of cells, as in malignant tumors, or the transfer of pathogenic microorganisms.

Is the movement or spreading of cancer cells from one organ or tissue to another.

The spread of cancer from one part of the body to another. Tumors formed from cells that have spread are called “secondary tumors” and contain cells that are like those in the original (primary) tumor. The plural is metastases.

Movement of bacteria or body cells, especially cancer cells, from one part of the body to the other, typically by way of the circulatory system.

Spreading of a malignant disease or pathogenic microorganisms from one organ or part to another not directly connected with it.

A cancer that has spread through the various systems.

The spreading of a malignant disease from one part of the body to another through the bloodstream or the lymph system.

Migration of abnormal proliferative cells as in cancer.

The medical term for a condition in which a tumor or cancer is spreading beyond its original site.

The transfer or spread of diseased (i.e., cancerous) cells from a primary location to other sites in the body.

Spread of a tumor from its site of origin to distant sites, usually through the bloodstream, the lymphatic system, or across a cavity such as that contained in the peritoneum.

Spreading of malignant cells to surrounding tissues and other parts of the body though the blood and lymph.

The spread of disease, usually cancer, from one part of the body to another; a growth of cancer cells far from the original cancer site. When cancer spreads, it is still named after the part of the body where it first developed. If prostate cancer has spread to the lungs, for example, it is still considered prostate cancer. Metastasis involves the spread of cancer cells through the bloodstream or the lymphatic system. Surgeons removing cancerous tumors usually try to remove nearby lymph nodes as well. Metastases are responsible for many cancer deaths. Early treatment of cancer helps prevent metastasis.

The moving of a disease, or its manifestations, from one part of the body to another. When mumps subsides in the parotid gland and reappears in the testis in the male, a metastasis has occurred. In cancer, a metastasis is appearance of the tumor cells in a remote part or remote parts of the body.

Metastasis and metastatic are terms applied to the process by which malignant disease spreads to distant parts of the body, and also to the secondary tumours resulting from this process. For example, a cancer of the breast may produce metastatic growths in the glands of the armpit; cancer of the stomach may be followed by metastases in the liver. Metastases are colloquially known as secondaries and their spread occurs through the bloodstream, lymphatic system and across the body cavities. Highly malignant tumours for example, melanomas are especially prone to metastasise far and fast.

Movement of bacteria or body cells (especially cancer cells) from one part of the body to another.

Metastasis is a process by which cancer cells break away from the primary tumor and migrate through the lymph or blood systems to other tissues, where they continue to grow.

The spread of cancer from one part of the body to another. A tumor formed from cells that have spread is called a secondary tumor, a metastatic tumor or a metastasis. The secondary tumor contains cells that are like those in the original (primary) tumor.

The spread of cancer from where it first develops to other parts of the body.

Process by which cancerous cells spread from their original location to another location in the body.

The spread of disease, usually cancer, from one part of the body to another that is not directly connected to it.

The spread of cancerous cells via the blood or lymph from one part of the body to another.

Cancer’s dissemination from its primary location to a distinct region within the body manifests a significant phenomenon.

A secondary malignant tumor, originating from cells that have migrated from a primary cancer to a different body area, is known as metastasis. This term also refers to the mechanism by which this migration takes place. Metastases can disseminate via the lymphatic system, the bloodstream, or through body cavities.

The transmission of a disease from its initial point of origin to a distant location by transporting the causative agent or cells through blood vessels or lymphatic channels. This is the mechanism through which cancer metastasizes.

The process of disease transmission from one organ or body part to another that is not directly connected to it.
