A frequently fatal disease caused by a virus classed as a member of the family Filoviridae. Clinically this disease is identical to that caused by the Ebola virus.
An uncommon type of hemorrhagic fever, also known as green monkey disease, which is spread by African vervet monkeys.
The disease begins abruptly, marked by sudden fever, intense headache, chest and abdominal discomfort, vomiting, diarrhea, and a rash appearing on the trunk. As time passes, the symptoms escalate, potentially encompassing weight loss, confusion, jaundice, extensive internal bleeding, impaired liver and organ functions, and ultimately shock.
No targeted treatment exists for this ailment; individuals affected must be hospitalized. In the hospital setting, their blood and fluid levels will be carefully managed, and any additional infections will be addressed.
