Lymphedema praecox

Obstruction of the lymphatic channels, producing edema, which occurs primarily in women between the ages of 10 and 25; its cause is unknown. The interstitial fluid that accumulates first appears in the feet but can travel proximally to the trunk; it continues to accumulate throughout life. When the edema becomes severe, it predisposes the patient to chronic ulcers and superimposed infections of the legs.
