Laryngeal nerve palsy is a condition where one or both of the laryngeal nerves become paralyzed. It can be caused by issues that put pressure on the nerve, like an aneurysm in the aorta or tumors in the thyroid gland, esophagus, or lung. Other causes can be infections, poisoning that impacts the nerves, or injuries sustained during surgeries involving the thyroid gland, lung, or heart. This nerve paralysis can lead to either full or partial paralysis of the vocal cords, and consequently, can cause a range of voice loss, from mild to severe.
