Kallikreins

A group of serine proteases that act on blood proteins to produce bradykinin, a potent vasodilator.

Plasma, urine, and body tissue enzyme that is normally inactive; when activated, causes significant vasodilation; may contribute to low blood pressure (hypotension) and shock.

One of a group of enzymes found in the blood and body fluids that act on certain plasma globulins to produce bradykinin and kallidin.

An enzyme normally present in plasma, urine, and body tissue in an inactive state. When activated, kallikrein has many actions: it dilates blood vessels, influences blood pressure, modulates salt and water excretion by the kidneys, and influences cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction.
