Isoflavones

A subgroup of flavonoids in which the basic structure is a 3-phenyl chromane skeleton. They act as phytoestrogens in mammals.


A type of phytoestrogen (plant estrogen) found primarily in soybeans.


A group of phytochemicals (including genistein and daidzein) that are produced within the seeds of the soybean plant. Evidence suggests that consumption of isoflavones by humans can help to lower blood content of low-density lipoproteins (LDLP), can help to prevent prostate enlargement, and can help to prevent certain types of cancer (e.g., endometrial cancer).


Compounds that mimic the action of oestrogen.


Bacterium that converts lactose and other simple sugars to lactic acid.
