Ischemia

An insufficient supply of blood to an organ, usually due to a blocked artery.

Deficiency of blood in an area due to a functional constriction or actual obstruction of a blood vessel(s); blockage or inadequate supply of oxygenated blood to tissues or organs; may be caused by overzealous tight suturing.

Deficiency of blood in a part, due to functional constriction or actual obstruction of a blood vessel.

A local, usually temporary decrease in blood supply in some part of the body resulting from obstruction of arterial flow.

Temporary deficiency of blood in a body part due to a constriction or obstruction of a blood vessel.

Holding back or obstructing the flow of blood.

An inadequate blood supply to a part of the body.

A narrowing of the coronary artery or arteries due to atherosclerotic plaque obstructing the flow of blood to the cardiac muscle resulting in coronary heart disease.

Impaired blood flow causing oxygen and nutrient deprivation resulting in pain and, if severe, in the death of some or all parts of the tissue.

Decreased blood supply to a given body part, sometimes resulting from vasoconstriction, thrombosis, or embolism.

A lack of blood in a given body area or organ; commonly caused by obstruction (narrowing or blockage of blood vessels) in that area due to abnormality or disease of the blood vessels.

A temporary shortage of oxygen in a part of the body caused by impaired blood flow. The usual cause of ischemia is a buildup on the artery walls of fatty material known as plaque; the plaque narrows the artery and slows blood flow. If a blood clot forms at the site of the narrowing, the oxygen supply may be completely interrupted, leading to the death of the affected tissue.

An inadequate flow of blood to a part of the body, caused by constriction or blockage of the blood vessels supplying it. Ischemia of heart muscle produces angina pectoris.

A temporary deficiency of blood flow to an organ or tissue. The deficiency may be caused by diminished blood flow either through a regional artery or throughout the circulation.

Ischemia means “insufficient oxygen.” It is used in reference to conditions in which cells are deprived of oxygen, resulting in pain or discomfort (heart angina, side stitch, etc.).

Poor blood supply to an organ or part, often marked by pain and organ disorder.

A specific insufficiency in the circulation of blood to a particular area, typically resulting from either the constriction of blood vessels or the presence of obstructions hindering the normal flow of arterial blood.
