Intrinsic factor

A protein secreted in the gastric juice which is required for the absorption of vitamin B12; impaired secretion results in pernicious anaemia.

A substance normally found in gastric juices; essential for the absorption of vitamin B12.

A transferase microprotein secreted by the mucosal cells of the stomach, which is required for the absorption of vitamin B12 through the intestinal wall. A lack of will produce pernicious anemia.

A protein produced in the gastric glands which reacts with the extrinsic factor, and which, if lacking, causes pernicious anaemia.

A protein secreted by the gastric cells and which is needed for the absorption of vitamin B12.

Substance secreted by the mucous membranes of the stomach that is essential for absorption of vitamin B12; lack of intrinsic factor leads to deficiency of vitamin B12 and resultant pernicious anemia.

A glycoprotein secreted in the stomach. The secretion of intrinsic factor is necessary for the absorption of vitamin B12; a failure of secretion of intrinsic factor leads to a deficiency of the vitamin and the condition of pernicious anemia.

Secreted in the lining of the stomach, this factor is one of the glycoproteins, and is essential for the absorption into the bloodstream of vitamin B. Absence of intrinsic factor causes a deficiency of this essential vitamin, which in turn causes pernicious anaemia.

A glycoprotein secreted by the parietal cells of the gastric mucosa. It is necessary for the absorption of ingested vitamin B12. The absence of this factor leads to vitamin B12 deficiency and pernicious anemia.

A secretion generated by the parietal cells in the stomach, intrinsic factor is necessary for the absorption of vitamin B12 by the intestine. The two substances combine to form a complex that facilitates the absorption process.

Intrinsic factor, a substance generated by the stomach lining, is vital for the absorption of vitamin B12. Insufficient intrinsic factor causes a deficiency in vitamin B12, which consequently gives rise to pernicious anemia.

A substance typically found in gastric juice but missing in pernicious anemia, also known as Castle’s factor.
