Interstitial cells

Specialized cells in the testicles that produce the male sex hormone, testosterone.

A testosterone-producing cell between the tubules in the testes.

The cells interspersed between the seminiferous tubules of the testis. They secrete androgens in response to stimulation by luteinizing hormone from the anterior pituitary gland.

Also called Leydig cells, these cells are scattered between the seminiferous tubules of the testis. Luteinising hormone from the anterior pituitary gland stimulates the interstitial cells to produce androgens, or male hormones.

One of the many cells found in connective tissue of the ovary, in the seminiferous tubules of the testes, and in the medulla and cortex of the kidney. The cells in the testes and ovaries produce hormones such as testosterone and estrogen.
