Characterized by trembling, faintness, palpitations, excessive perspiration, and hunger. Present on occasion with people who suffer from diabetes mellitus. The symptoms will disappear when the person drinks orange juice or eats some form of carbohydrate.
A serious drop in blood sugar, caused by too much insulin accompanied by sweating, dizziness, trembling and eventually coma.
Abnormal physiological state in which the blood glucose level is too low (hypoglycemia); it may be caused by an overdose of insulin, decreased food intake, or excess exercise. Symptoms include sweating, trembling, nervousness, irritability, and pallor; if not corrected, it can lead to convulsions and death. Treatment requires the administration of glucose.
Severe hypoglycemia produced by excess insulin and inadequate food intake; characterized by diaphoresis, tremors, restlessness, confusion, diplopia, delirium, convulsions, and circulatory collapse.
A condition usually seen in insulin-dependent diabetic patients who have taken too much insulin or have not eaten enough food to balance the amount of insulin injected. It also may occur in diabetic patients who are not well stabilized or in those who are ill or injured. Blood sugar drops to a very low level, resulting in such symptoms as tremors, a cold sweat, dizziness, and weakness. Coma may follow unless orange juice, sugar, candy, or specific medical management is provided to neutralize the excess insulin.
A condition in which an abnormally low blood sugar (glucose) level results in unconsciousness; also called hypoglycemia. Insulin shock occurs when excessive insulin is released into the bloodstream by the pancreas; it is most likely to occur in a person who takes insulin for diabetes. Symptoms may progress rapidly, and a person experiencing an insulin reaction can progress quickly from feeling nervous, hungry, apprehensive, and confused to sweating profusely to loss of consciousness or seizure.
A life-threatening condition that may occur in a person with type I diabetes, resulting from low blood sugar.
