Hyposensitization is a prophylactic approach to certain allergies, including those caused by grass pollens and insect venom. This treatment involves administering incrementally higher doses of the allergen, the substance causing the allergic reaction, to decrease the immune system’s sensitivity to it. This therapy may need to be carried out annually over several years. However, there’s a risk of a severe allergic reaction known as anaphylactic shock associated with this treatment.
