Excess secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach due to secretion of a greater volume of gastric juice rather than to a higher concentration.

Excessive secretion of hydrochloric acid into the stomach by the gastric cells. An insufficient secretions is termed hypochlorhydria.


Excessive production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It is a characteristic finding in certain forms of dyspepsia, particularly that associated with a duodenal ulcer, and causes heartburn and water-brash.
