Fluid accumulation in tissues.
An abnormal accumulation of fluid in fetal tissues. This condition can be detected by ultrasound and can include scalp edema (accumulation of fluid), ASCITES (abdominal edema), and fluid in the lungs. Fetal hydrops can lead to serious birth defects, including severely impaired intellectual or motor abilities. Termination of the pregnancy may be an option.
