Supportive services provided by an agency in order to permit an individual who is able to carry out the activities of daily living (ADL) to remain at home rather than being placed in an institution. The services are given by homemakers and home aides rather than by nurses. One benefit of having such trained assistance in the home is that the worker going into the home is in a position to detect the need for and to obtain nursing services as required. Home life care is distinguished from home health care in that home health care includes nursing services under the direction of a physician rather than simply homemaking care.
