Hemosiderin

An insoluble form of storage iron.


An iron-containing compound that results from the breakdown of hemoglobin. It is a form of denatured ferritin.


A substance composed of a protein shell containing iron salts, which may be present inside certain cells, being one of the forms in which iron is stored within the body. It is insoluble and may be demonstrated microscopically in suitably stained tissue preparations.


An iron-containing pigment derived from hemoglobin from disintegration of red blood cells. It is one form in which iron is stored until it is needed for making hemoglobin.
