A complex process which causes the bleeding process to stop.
The process of stopping bleeding or slowing the movement of blood.
The process by which bleeding stops. It involves constriction of blood vessels, the formation of a platelet plug, and blood clotting. The term is also used for surgical interventions to stop bleeding for example, the use of diathermy.
Hemostasis refers to the process of stopping bleeding. There are three primary natural mechanisms through which bleeding is halted after an injury. Firstly, small blood vessels constrict to reduce blood flow. Secondly, platelets, small blood cells, aggregate and form a plug at the bleeding points. Thirdly, blood plasma coagulates, creating fibrin filaments that aid in sealing the damaged blood vessel. Any defects in these mechanisms can lead to a bleeding disorder.
