Haematinic

Improving the quality of the blood, its haemoglobin level and the number of erythrocytes.


General term for those nutrients, including iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12, required for the formation and development of blood cells in bone marrow (the process of haematopoiesis), deficiency of which may result in anaemia.


A drug which increases haemoglobin in blood, used to treat anaemia, e.g. an iron compound.


A drug that raises the quantity of haemoglobin in the blood. Ferrous sulphate is a common example of iron-containing compounds given to anaemic patients whose condition is due to iron deficiency.
