A condition in which a woman has abortions with successive pregnancies.
Repeated spontaneous expulsion of the products of conception in three or more pregnancies, often for no known cause.
Three or more consecutive spontaneous abortions.
“Habitual abortion” is an outdated term used to describe the spontaneous abortion of a fetus in three or more consecutive pregnancies, occurring before 24 weeks’ gestation. Nowadays, it is more commonly referred to as recurrent pregnancy loss or recurrent miscarriage. This condition may be attributed to defects or disorders of the uterus, such as fibroids, or issues with the cervix. Additionally, certain maternal conditions, like systemic lupus erythematosus or Hughes’ syndrome, may also contribute to habitual abortion.
Repeated miscarriages occurring in each pregnancy could be caused by various factors. These may include uterine conditions like fibroids, an underdeveloped womb that doesn’t expand as it should, hormonal imbalances, or systemic diseases.
