A surgical operation to open up the stomach.
A procedure during abdominal surgery in which the stomach is opened, usually to allow inspection of the interior (e.g. to find a point of bleeding), to remove a foreign body, or to allow the esophagus to be approached from below (e.g. to pull down a tube through a constricting growth).
