A member of the Committee on Thought Reading (CTR) of the British society for psychical research. Myers and his colleagues made a determined effort to assess many claims of paranormal phenomena, especially thought reading. Some of his books are still referred to today. In his most notable work, Human Personality and Its Survival after Bodily Death, Vo/s. 1 & 2 (1903), he presents what he believes are authenticated accounts of hundreds of cases of various paranormal events.
The first report of the CTR in 1882 was warmly received, having clearly established the reality of thought reading by six young girls. In 1888, the girls admitted that they had tricked their observers. Yet, Myers continued to be convinced of the reality of thought transference.
