Forewaters

Fluid which comes out of the vagina at the beginning of childbirth when the amnion bursts.

Fluid that comes out of the vaginal opening when the bag (amnion) around the fetus bursts during labor.

A pocket of amniotic fluid that precedes the presenting part of the fetus into the cervical canal. Expulsion or dissolution of the mucus plug (cervical operculum) allows the pocket to descend into the canal during the first stage of labor.

The term commonly refers to the release of amniotic fluid, often referred to as the “waters,” from the uterus when the portion of the amniotic sac ahead of the presenting part of the fetus ruptures shortly before childbirth. This event can occur either before or after labour begins.
