Flatplate

A radiograph requiring a frontal projection of the abdomen or other body part with the patient supine.

The term in question pertains to the glass plates that were employed in the early stages of x-ray technology. However, this term is now considered obsolete as glass plates have not been in use since the 1920s. Instead, radiographic images are currently recorded on film, pioneered by George Eastman. Alternately, terms such as plain film, scout film, or preliminary film are occasionally used to refer to the same concept.
