Benign tumor (fibroma) containing fibrous tissue, especially that of the uterus. Fibroid tumors of the uterus are common and in many cases do not require treatment; if, however, they cause discomfort or hemorrhage, surgical removal is necessary.
Fibroid tumors are benign growths that develop in the uterus. They are non-cancerous in nature. These tumors are observed in approximately 30-40% of women who are above the age of 40. Generally, unless they cause symptoms that hinder a woman’s regular activities, there is no necessity to remove them.
Typically a fibromyoma of the uterus, this benign tumor can develop inside, within the wall, or on the exterior surface of the uterus, with symptoms varying based on its location.
