Factor

In genetics, a gene.

Something which has an influence or which makes something else take place.

A substance, variously numbered, e.g. Factor I, Factor II, in the plasma, which makes the blood coagulate when a blood vessel is injured.

Something that produces or influences a result (e.g., factor S, sleep-promoting substance isolated from human urine).

A term used in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) referring to reasons (other than disease or injury) why people come into contact with the health care system.

Substances of varying nature that are essential for eliciting specific effects or functions within the body. This terminology is employed when the precise chemical composition of the substance remains unidentified. In the field of endocrinology, when the chemical identity is established, these factors are referred to as hormones.

Coagulation factors encompass a collection of substances present in the bloodstream, including proteins and minerals, which play an indispensable role in the process of clot formation. Each of these clotting components is assigned a distinct designation, denoted by Roman numerals ranging from I to XIII.
