Extrasensory perception (ESP)

Perception without recourse to the conventional use of any of the five physical senses.


Awareness or knowledge obtained by means other than the five senses.


A supposed way of perceiving that involves none of the known senses. Clairvoyance is the extrasensory perception of current events; precognition is extrasensory perception of future events; telepathy is extrasensory perception of the thoughts of others.


The reported perception of external events by other than the five senses.


The belief that certain people have an awareness of an external state, condition or event without recourse to any of the bodily senses. Especially is the cognitive side of psychic phenomena in contrast to the physical aspect, which is called psychokinesis (PK). The term includes clairvoyance, having knowledge without recourse to empirical means; Telepathy, or thought transference, the awareness of another person’s thoughts and emotions and the ability of persons to exchange ideas and feelings when not in sound or sight of each other; and precognition, the knowledge of a future event that cannot be logically inferred from the current situation.
