The act of evenly scattering flour, sugar, or other similar ingredients onto food is commonly referred to as “dredging”. For instance, before frying, fish and meat are often dredged with flour, while cakes, cookies, pancakes, and other pastries may be lightly coated with fine sugar to enhance their appearance. In order to perform this task, a perforated metal or plastic container, typically known as a “dredger,” is employed.
