A drug that lowers high blood pressure. Doxazosin (Cardura) dilates arteries and veins and is used to treat high blood pressure and other conditions, such as a benign enlarged prostate. It also lowers cholesterol levels. Doxazosin belongs to a class of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers, or alpha blockers. It may cause low blood pressure and abnormal heart rhythms.
An antidepressant drug. Doxepin (Sinequan) is used to treat depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders. Doxepin has a sedative effect, although tolerance to the drug usually develops in a few weeks, and the drug becomes less effective.
