Dissociative amnesia

Formerly known as psychogenic amnesia. A memory impairment, characterized by sudden and brief loss of personal information, with no other cognitive disturbance, often in response to traumatic or stressful events.

Inability to recall important personal information, usually of a traumatic or stressful nature, that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness. This was formerly called psychogenic amnesia.

Within the domain of dissociative disorders, there exists a specific condition characterized by the phenomenon of memory loss for certain periods of time. This amnesia, known as dissociative amnesia, can occur as a consequence of a traumatic event, wherein the individual experiences a profound and involuntary detachment from recollection.
