Digital rectal examination

A standard screening examination employed to identify the presence of nodules in the prostate gland or any induration or anomalous changes in the prostate tissue. The physician gently inserts a lubricated and gloved finger (digit) into the patient’s rectum, situated directly behind the prostate. As a significant number of tumors develop in the rear portion of the prostate, they can usually be detected through this rectal approach.
